Dry summertime conditions meant that my local trails were running extra-firm and fast, and the spacer added a touch more support and bottom out resistance. I ended up adding one additional volume spacer to the Super Deluxe shock, bringing the total up to two. The shock tune felt perfectly matched to the bike's behavior - the rear wheel stayed glued to the ground when I wanted it to be, delivering a surprising amount of traction on off-camber roots and slippery, loose corners. It’s not ultra-gooshy, to use a technical term, but it does a great job of balancing comfort and support in rougher terrain. Imagine doing a cannonball into a pile of memory foam mattresses - that’s the sensation the Hightower delivers when faced with bigger hits. It's the type of bike that makes you want to toss in a little speed wheelie whenever possible, or try to double up features that probably weren't meant to be doubled. The Hightower has much less serious feel than the Megatower where the Megatower felt a little subdued when ridden at a casual pace, the Hightower has a much more eager, energetic nature. On paper they may not be that far off, but on the trail, the bikes have two distinct personalities due to the different travel amounts and shock tunes. I didn't look at the geometry chart for this Hightower until I had a handful of rides under my belt, and when I did I was surprised by how similar the numbers were to the Megatower. a 160) shifted my weight over the front a little more, and the reduced sag from the shock kept the seat angle a little steeper. The geometry is really close to that of the Megatower, but with a little less suspension squish, it handled a bit better on the climbs – the 150mm fork (vs. It's not wildly light, but it's not a pig either, and the well-balanced geometry makes it easy to power through the miles required to reach the top of a big climb. Otherwise, I was completely content leaving that blue lever alone.Įven though it's longer and slacker than the prior model, the Hightower is still quite maneuverable when things get tight and technical. ![]() There's also a climb mode that can be used to firm things up even further, but I only touched that when I was spinning my way to the trailhead on a paved road. I added four clicks of low-speed compression (from fully open) to the Super Deluxe shock, which added a touch more support for climbing, while still retaining plenty of small bump sensitivity for rougher sections of trail. The shock's light compression tune felt like a very good match for the Hightower's kinematics – it makes the compression dial a usable feature, as opposed to needing to run it all the way open without any room for adjustment.

Whatever system you choose, remember that the goal is to make the library easy to use and intriguing for students. If you want your students to be able to return their own books to the proper place, consider their cognitive skills and abilities when creating your system. Using classroom library labels with pictures or colors that match the section they belong to is another option for organization. But book baskets eliminate that challenge and encourage more independence. ![]() Younger students can struggle with standing books up with their spines facing out. Book bins for classroom library setups may be an easier option if you teach first grade or second grade. Try using book baskets, bins, or bookshelves to organize the various sections. There are many ways to organize classroom library books. It provides the perfect opportunity for your students to practice their new skills. You can help these lessons stick by encouraging more independent reading with a classroom library. Many days, you work hard teaching reading or vocabulary strategies in your lessons. This trend occurred across all ages from young readers to experienced readers, and in classrooms from elementary to high school. Researchers have discovered that students with access to a class library read 50 to 60 percent more than students without that access. Why are classroom libraries so effective? Students are simply more likely to read if more books are easily available. They’ve also been shown to boost reading levels. "Kaiser is already letting down our patients"įor Brooke El-Amin, the staffing shortage has taken a huge toll. "We are committed to addressing every area of staffing that is still challenging," Kaiser said in a statement. Kaiser also said it's working to reach an agreement with the unions that "protects and improves all these great advantages of working at Kaiser," citing progress in national bargaining over the past week and steps the organization has already taken to streamline the hiring process. The organization is asking employees to reject calls to walk off the job to prevent harm to patients, while stressing that it has plans in place to keep providing care in the event of a strike. Kaiser said it offers better pay and benefits than other health care employers. Shots - Health News What happens to health programs if the federal government shuts down? Kaiser said in a statement that it's close to reaching its goal of hiring 10,000 more people by the end of 2023 to fill vacant roles. The unions also say Kaiser has so far refused to renew subcontracting and outsourcing protections. Kaiser has offered raises ranging from 12% to 14%, according to the unions. It would also attract newer workers - all of which would help alleviate the staffing shortage. With better pay and work conditions, they say, more people would be incentivized to stay at Kaiser. "We went from really having a problem on the horizon to having a crisis here and now," Lucas said. An exodus of health care workers due to COVID-19 – coupled with a surge in demand as patients return for routine care they had delayed because of the pandemic – has heightened the severity of the staffing shortage, according to Caroline Lucas, executive director of the union coalition. Staffing crisisīut the Kaiser strike threat is primarily driven by a colossal understaffing crisis. Like striking workers in many other industries, they, too are demanding higher pay and better benefits. If workers walk off the job, it would be what their unions describe as the biggest healthcare strike in U.S. The Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions says it's still far apart from Kaiser on key issues such as pay raises and job protections.
